bee Urticaria

Dr Radcliffe accepts referrals in all areas of allergy medicine including food allergy and intolerance, rhinitis (hay fever), asthma, anaphylaxis, drug allergy, rubber latex allergy, venom allergy, urticaria (hives), angioedema (allergy swellings), eczema and dermatitis.

Two tests are commonly used, the Skin Prick Test and the Specific IgE Blood Test (previously known as RAST). However, whilst allergy is unlikely when these tests are negative, a positive result only means that allergen-specific IgE is present (i.e. the immune system has become sensitised) it does not diagnose the allergy.

This is why allergy tests can be unsafe if interpreted by people who have had no training in allergy.

Allergy Testing

Dr Michael Radcliffe is one of a small number of consultant physicians in the UK with General Medical Council specialist accreditation in Allergy Medicine.   He was formerly Senior Consultant to the Allergy Service at University College London Hospitals.  He is now based at the BMI Sarum Road Hospital in Winchester (Hampshire).

Virtual Allergy Clinics

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Radcliffe will remain available for consultation by telephone in place of face-to-face consultation.

According to the nature of the problem, allergy tests may be needed and this can easily be arranged.  If you live at a distance, it is normally possible to organise a standard blood sample by pre-arrangement at a local health facility. Alternatively we can equip you to self-collect your own 'Tiny' blood drop sample into a microcontainer.

The blood sample is then mailed directly to a quality accredited pathology laboratory using  a pre-paid postal pack.
